Wow Starters for Term 3!

Year 5 & 6 - As our 'WOW' introduction to our new book this term 'Survivors', some of us were brave enough to try eating some insects, including crickets, locusts and mealworms.

In Swift and Wagtail class we went for a walk to look out for the signs of Winter and found a mysterious egg! We brought it back to class to look after it. We wondered what grows inside an egg and had lots of ideas. Was it an alligator, a duck, a dragon, or a squirrel? We sorted our ideas between living animals, animals that had been living but were now extinct, and mythical creatures like dragons and unicorns. We sorted the living animals into those that hatch out of eggs and those that don’t. We wonder if a dragon might hatch out of our egg and are reading the book Zog by Julia Donaldson for our class text this term. We might need the help of Madam Dragon if it hatches!

In Blackbird and Falcon class, as our WOW starter we introduced the book ‘Ada Twist Scientist’ by conducting our own experiment- Elephant toothpaste. We wanted to see what reaction would be caused by mixing some materials. 

In year 3 and 4 we enjoyed our WOW starter, designing our own robots based on our book ‘The Wild Robot’.
